Two WIP's almost done!!!

I'm so exicited since two of my works in progress (WIPs) are all most done.  I need to go buy some batting and backing and the quilting can commence.  Here is the quilt I designed for my grandbaby Eeaunna.  I love the bright colors.  Don't you think that the fabric just sings little girl...
I started this quilt last summer and I put it away because I became distracted by another project.  All you quilters now how that is...anyway I digress...when I was sewing the pieced blocks I could tell that my piecing skills have greatly improved over the last few month which gives me a tremendous amout of joy.  I know, I know I get excited over the littlest things.  I'm going to back this quilt with bright orange minkee.
Close up of the pieced block:

My second project is from the 10 minute block video I posted in a previous post.  This quilt was so fun to put together I started making another one...lol  I'm going to put chocolate brown minkee on the back of this one.  I loved the plaid but working with plaid makes me nervous since I'm not quite sure how to make it line up.  I made one mistake on this quilt.  I turned the one block so the brown plaid is next to the brown plaid border..oh well...I'm not going to unpick it...:)

I got out the compass and started doodling around with it.  I would encourage you to do the same. It is a lot of fun and really releases that creative spirit.
I've got another purse design on the drawing board and an idea brewing for February's stitchery pattern.  Have a wonderful quilty week.

Are you creating "Ish-fully"?

I read a wonderful book to my Indiana grandchildren this last week.  It is titled "Ish" by Peter H. Reynolds.   In this story a little boy named Ramon loves to draw until his older brother tells him that his flower vase does not look like a flower vase.  So Ramon gives up until his little sister lets him know that his pictures look "ish-ly" in other words they look sorta like a vase and sorta like a fish and they are wonderful.

As quilters do we get caught up in what others think are quilts should look like?  Do we have an negative internal dialogue?  This story reminded me that we need to take great joy in what we are creating and not let the quilt police or anyone else discourage us on this journey.

You can read a free copy of this book at http://www.readeo.com/ where it is the featured book this month when you sign up for the free 14 day trial or you can find the book at Amazon.com.

I'm going to have an "Ish-fully" day how about you??

Change is good and fast is great!!!

This video was posted on facebook about a week ago.  I can't believe how creative Suzanne McNeill is to create such a cool block.  This block has only three seams and if you make it from a layer cake there is very little cutting involved.  This is my quilt that I'm working on:
I'm using Lily and Will from Bunny Hill.  I'm going to use the brown plaid as the border...I'm just waiting for it to arrive in the mail.  This quilt is fast and easy and would be wonderful for a quick gift or raffle.

I finished our January stitchery pattern, I made it into a cute pillow:

I went to see Kristy my favorite hair dresser and I went back to a darker hair color again.  I just love changing my hair:

Here is the after:

What do you think?  I hope you have a wonderful quilty week!!

Are you a Quiltologist?

I was reading an article by Lisa-Marie Sanders titled "Alien-in-training" published in the February 2011 edition of The Quilt Life.  She has a humorous take on the language Quilter's use...as I read it I thought it would be fun to come up with a few of my own vocabulary words:

Quiltologist:  An individual that loves all things quilt related.

Threadology:  The study of thread specifically the myths and legends regarding its usage. (See Bob Purcell at www.superiorthreads.com)

Fabriophile:  An individual that has the need to fondle or purchase fabric on a regular basis.

Threadage:  The placement of thread on clothing, carpets, drapes and hair that signifies that you or someone you love quilts.

What quilting terms can you think of?

Have a wonderful quilty week!!!
